McKinsey partner joins TR as strategy chief

Brian Scanlon, a partner in US-based global management consulting firm McKinsey, joined Thomson Reuters on Monday as chief strategy officer. Chief executive James Smith said he would "set and communicate the global strategic direction of Thomson Reuters and ensure it is translated into specific, actionable plans throughout our business".

Smith said Scanlon’s years of experience in management consulting and considerable knowledge of new and emerging technologies “will be a critical advantage as we continue to build our roadmap for our future”.  Located in Stamford, Connecticut, he will report to Smith and become a member of the group’s executive committee.

Scanlon, pictured, spent the last 14 years at McKinsey, seven of them as a partner. His work for McKinsey – widely considered the world’s most prestigious management consulting firm – included stints in London and Singapore. The firm serves as an adviser to businesses, governments, and institutions around the world.

Smith said Scanlon would also identify and lead specific corporate or cross-business initiatives and growth opportunities, and he would support the Thomson Reuters leadership team in assessing potential investments and acquisitions.

“I am confident that Brian's extensive experience will be both a driving and a guiding force in our company's future growth and transformation,” he added. ■
