Editor promoted to run Reuters editorial operations
Friday 17 January 2014
Reginald Chua, pictured, has moved up to become Reuters' executive editor for editorial operations, data and innovation, broadly filling the role of Stuart Karle, a US media lawyer who left in December after chief executive Andrew Rashbass decided there was no need for a chief operating officer.
Editor-in-chief Stephen Adler, announcing the promotion on Thursday, said it took effect immediately. Chua has been filling the lead operations role on an interim basis since Karle’s departure.
“Reg did an excellent job filling in, working creatively and effectively with me, the general managers, and with Finance, Communications, and HR,” Adler said. “In the process, he also demonstrated that he could balance both the operations and data and innovation roles. As a result, I decided he should do both, with appropriate assistance from the team, on a full-time basis.”
Chua is responsible for editorial’s strategic planning and resource allocation; operational processes’ budget; administration and logistics; and safety. He reports to Adler. Chua re-joined Reuters in 2011, having started his career with the organisation. He was previously editor-in-chief of the South China Morning Post and also worked at The Wall Street Journal. ■
