Obituary: Leonard Ryan

Born in England, he joined the Royal Air Force as a teenager, serving in West Germany, Cyprus and India. The RAF taught him technical skills which were to develop into a later career with Reuters in London where, as part of UK Field Group, he ran Reuter Monitor field installations, and Hong Kong. He was also technical manager, Middle East and Africa.

In the 1980s Ryan joined the Australian Associated Press in Sydney.

After early retirement, he and his wife Anne ran a Greek café in Northam, Western Australia. ■
