Donald Forbes - a one-off

I worked briefly alongside Don Forbes on the World Desk and much later during the relief of Kuwait in the Gulf War. He was a fun friend as well as a talented journalist - a thorough professional. I only had one problem with Furrrrrbes - despite being a fellow Scot I often struggled to decipher his rapid-fire, gruff speech, usually delivered around a grin.

I was told by experts he was more easily understood in French. RIP Don, a one-off. ■
