Donald Forbes was the first to use the expression ethnic cleansing in English

Don Forbes, reporting from Serbia, was the first to use the term ethnic cleansing in English on July 31, 1991,  according to the renowned Amercan journalist and etymologist William Safire in the New York Time's On Language column. It is the translation of a Serbo-Croatian term.  ■
