Editorial bids farewell to Malcolm Davidson

Editorial’s Malcolm Davidson (photo) bowed out this week after what he called a great time in 32 years with Reuters.

Managing editor Paul Ingrassia joined colleagues who marked Davidson’s departure on Thanksgiving Day with a party in London, saying: “When I see Malcolm I think of reliability.” He said the Reuters family would miss him. “It’s not going to be the same family without you.”

Davidson, most recently front page editor in London, has been a correspondent in India, Pakistan, Belgium and the Philippines.

“We’re going to miss you terribly,” Janet McBride, news editor, Europe, Middle East and Africa, told Davidson.

He said he plans to do more sailing and perhaps training and mentoring with the Thomson Reuters Foundation.

Davidson noted that in the era before hostile environments training, the only advice he got from senior editor Alex Frere when heading off on assignment was: “Keep your head down, old boy.”

Davidson left the company on Wednesday and colleagues said Sonya Hepinstall replaces him as front page editor. ■
