Mike Reilly's Stiglitz interview hits the street

Former Reuters editor and manager Mike Reilly in New York (photo), helped charity street papers secure and then covered an exclusive interview with author and Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz.

The interview was distributed through the news agency of the Scotland-based International Network of Street Papers (INSP). Connecting more than 120 street papers sold by homeless people in 40 countries, INSP provides invaluable support to its publications. All 12,000 street paper vendors buy their magazines for a marked-down price and sell them on for the cover price.

Reilly’s interview as volunteer editor for INSP’s newswire in North America has been published by 11 street papers in the United States, Canada and Japan. In coming weeks it will be published by more street papers in several of INSP’s 24 languages. In the interview, Stiglitz spoke about the Occupy movement, the US Tea Party and the 99 per cent. He also elaborated on his latest book, The Price of Inequality.

INSP largely relies on volunteers to run its services for street papers. Together with Reilly (Reuters 1972 to 1996), former Reuters editor Tom Thomson also supports the network as its honorary editor.
