Paul Mylrea leaves BBC for top university PR job

Paul Mylrea (photo), has landed on his feet again. Fresh from a spell as director of public affairs at the BBC where his crisis communications skills were put to the test, he has been appointed director of communications at the University of Cambridge.

Mylrea, a Reuters correspondent and editor for 20 years until 2002, held major communications leadership roles at Oxfam, Transport for London and the British government’s Department for International Development before joining the BBC three years ago as head of press and media relations.

His departure from the corporation was announced in February following the appointment of a new director general and a director of strategy and digital, a post that includes responsibility for the BBC’s public affairs and communications. ■
