The Reuter Society
Rodney Pinder
Thursday 8 December 2011
News organisations need a more professional system of risk assessment, Rodney Pinder, director of the International News Safety Institute, told Reuter Society members at their AGM. They cannot go on hoping for a fair wind. INSI, an independent, non-profit, organisation dedicated to the safety of journalists and news media personnel working in areas of danger, was founded in 2003. It is now recognised as a major player in journalist safety. INSI’s London office is hosted by Thomson Reuters. In New York, it is hosted by the Associated Press. Pinder, a former Reuters foreign correspondent and news executive, retired in 2002 as global editor of Reuters Television News. ■
