Brian Bain encouraged and helped many

I was lucky enough to work with Brian in Hong Kong and Singapore in the 1990s. He set high standards in desk work and expected the same from others, but he also encouraged and helped so many people in their careers. He was a wonderful host after work and great fun to be with.

After leaving Reuters I was an editor at the Korea Herald in Seoul. When they needed more people with experience to improve standards, I persuaded Brian to leave his beloved Florida and join us. We worked together for several months and he stayed on after I left and was much appreciated. Brian and Barbara made a wonderful couple and he will be sorely missed by his many friends. ■
