The frequent and controlled, curved smile could have meant a few things, but the crow’s feet at the corner of the glistening eyes always told you that Jerry Norton was on your side, if you wanted him to be. If the eyes are the window to the soul, then Jerry was, is, a great one. We both worked with Jerry for many years, sitting beside him each day, or at the end of a line. His sharpness of mind and grace of character were unchanging. Talking to Jerry always gave a wider sense of perspective than a mere focus on the subject at hand. Perhaps Jerry would not mind if we said he was a great American, with all the values and disciplines that phrase imparts in its best sense. We are saddened that he is no longer here and send condolences to Kim and Michael. ■
