John Stephens: 'Just wind me up…'

There we were in Paris saddled with an NCR system that obstinately refused to produce invoices and accounting results that made any sense to anybody. John arrived on the scene and immediately, though we had only just met, offered to join me (I was then Western Region financial manager) in my next meeting with NCR. I will never forget the words he used to indicate his support. "Just wind me up and point me in the right direction". What more trust could anyone ask for their boss to show in them? And yes, after that meeting, things finally got back on track. ■
