Unfailingly polite. Steady gaze. A temper-calmer. Cerebral, unostentatiously so. Harassed, he performed well under “friendly” fire. Engaging smile. Very subject-knowledgeable. Antithesis of others. No bluster. No rampant climbing. 

He made 88 years - a good life, a great wedge of it productively and evidently in Reuters. He brought that young Doug Learmond on well...
