Trust Principles trustees add two new directors

The Thomson Reuters Founders Share Company on Friday announced the appointment of two new directors to its board. They are former British diplomat Lord Jay of Ewelme and Indian economist Vikram Singh Mehta who will become trustees " guardians of the Thomson Reuters Trust Principles " on 1 January 2014.

The Principles are designed to preserve Thomson Reuters’ independence, integrity and freedom from bias in the gathering and dissemination of information and news. They apply to the entire Thomson Reuters business.

Michael Jay worked in the British diplomatic service for 37 years, serving in London, Washington, New Delhi and Paris. He was British ambassador to France, then head of the diplomatic service, retiring in 2006 when he was nominated as an independent member of the House of Lords. He is a non-executive director of several companies.

Vikram Singh Mehta is chairman of Brookings India. He joined the Indian Administrative Service before joining Philips Petroleum as senior economist, then spent 14 years in the oil industry in India, Britain and Egypt. Until recently he was chairman of Shell Group in India. He also serves on the boards of several companies.

Uffe Ellemann-Jensen, chairman of the Founders Share Company’s board, said, “Both are men of high distinction and experience and will bring to our Board valuable international experience and exposure. Lord Jay, a highly skilled diplomat, and Vikram Singh Mehta, a successful global business leader who is well connected in India, will be instrumental to the success of our Board. I look forward to welcoming them as Board members.” ■
