Next Baron's Briefing - Simon Alterman

The next Baron's Briefing will be on Tuesday, 27^th January at 5.30pm London time (GMT).  Simon Alterman, former Reuters correspondent and bureau chief, will be giving an online talk entitled: Chile Under Pinochet: Resistance, Violence and a Swastika Next Door.  Simon arrived as a raw Reuters correspondent in Santiago in 1983 as protests mounted in the run-up to the 10^th anniversary of the military coup led by Augusto Pinochet. Within a year, the country was under a state of siege, allowing press censorship, arbitrary arrest and exile without charge.  Foreign correspondents were seen at best as suspicious and at worst as hostile.
