People goal

It’s easy to be cynical about these things [Top Thomson Reuters executives set managers a new goal], but I actually think the list is a good one however as Maxim says it needs to be implemented. My own experience of management in editorial at Reuters is that the organisation really only paid lip service to motivation of the kind being attempted here and that really no great effort was made to differentiate good managers from bad managers. 

For many staff this translated to a blame culture where rather than speaking their mind most kept their heads down. Reuters (and Thomson Reuters) massive e-mail culture of copying-in and group decision-making came directly from individuals unwillingness to put their head above the parapet. Quite rational, as the result of doing so was to invite getting it shot off! ■
