Reuters celebrates journalistic excellence

Reuters president and editor-in-chief Stephen Adler has praised the courage, integrity and ingenuity the organisation's journalists exhibit in producing their work.

On Wednesday he hosted what he termed “my favorite event of the year, the Journalists of the Year Awards. These awards celebrate the best of the journalism that we produce day in and day out across text, pictures, video and graphics — as well as applaud the courage, integrity and ingenuity that our colleagues exhibit in producing this work.”

Later, in a message to all Reuters employees, Adler said: “These awards also reflect how we’re meeting the challenge set forth in our strategy: to harness journalistic excellence both to provide differentiated value to our customers and to make a difference in the world. We’re doing this through a commitment to our core attributes – speed, accuracy and neutrality – and to our emerging capabilities in providing in-depth coverage, incisive commentary and forward-looking analysis.

“More than anything, the Journalists of the Year Awards are a window into the passion for news that drives everyone in the organization. The winners and so many of their colleagues face down extraordinary dangers, threats and day-to-day hardships in reporting from the world’s hot spots. Increasingly targets of governmental restrictions, harassment, cyber-attack and worse, our journalists just keep filing.

He added: “... our finalists and winners are great examples of the very best of Reuters.”
