Obituary: Zaid Rashdan

Zaid Rashdan (photo), 64, formerly Reuters general manager in the Middle East and North Africa, died in Amman on 8 March. He was 64.

Rashdan was variously a Reuters business manager and then general manager in Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Sudan and Syria from 1997 to 2007. He later joined Jordan United Television as CEO and deputy chairman.

 

His friend and Reuters colleague Wassim Henoud said “Zaid contributed tremendously to Reuters growth in a very volatile region. He was widely respected and influential in the banking community in the Middle East.” ■
